30A Doesn’t Really Have an Off-Season
There’s no bad time to be here, just different times. Summer is warm water and full parking lots. Fall thins the crowds while the Gulf stays warm into October. Winter is quiet, cool, and the locals’ favorite. Spring brings the festivals back and the water starts turning over.
What changes week to week is the calendar β concerts, markets, races, festivals. We keep all of that in one place so it’s actually current, instead of letting it go stale on a page like this one..

30A Beach Towns
30A has multiple beach towns all along the County Road 30A corridor:
- ποΈSanta Rosa Beach (Dune Allen and Gulf Place)– The original 30A beach town – it is a little more spread out and residential, itβs where 30A meets Old Florida charm β peaceful, authentic, and full of hidden trails.
- π΅ββοΈBlue Mountain Beach – Donβt let the name fool you β itβs Floridaβs βmountainβ thanks to towering dunes. Great for laid-back afternoons, ice cream, and scenic Gulf views.
- π¨Grayton Beach -Funky, laid-back, and artsy β where youβll hear live music drift from Red Bar and find locals paddleboarding before breakfast.
- β²Watercolor – Pastel cottages, lush landscaping, and scenic boardwalks make this a perfect blend of elegance and beachy comfort. Ideal for families and romantic getaways.
- π‘Seaside – The postcard-perfect heart of 30A, with white facades, metal roofs, and that iconic New Urbanist layout. Don’t forget the food trucks, and that famous amphitheater lawn.
- π³Seagrove Beach – Quiet and woodsy, itβs the gateway between old and new 30A. Great for nature lovers and easy beach access.
- π§Watersound – Gated and serene, with a luxury feel and dune walkovers that look like nature paintings.
- π΄Seacrest – A sweet spot for families β close to the action in Rosemary but more relaxed. Bike-friendly with a great village vibe.
- βͺAlys Beach – All white walls and Mediterranean elegance, itβs 30Aβs architectural cover model.
- ποΈRosemary Beach – Cobblestone streets, boutique shops, and a European seaside village feel. Upscale but still approachable.
- π Inlet Beach – A quiet coastal gateway with 30Aβs widest beach access, sunset strolls, and a growing lineup of shops and dining.

Hidden Gems & Outdoor Adventures on 30A
The beach is the headline. These are the things to do on 30A that most visitors drive right past β and the ones we point friends toward first.
- πΌοΈ The Underwater Museum of Art β Grayton Beach. The first permanent underwater sculpture garden in the United States, sitting 0.93 miles offshore from Grayton Beach State Park in 58 feet of water. That’s a scuba depth, not a snorkel stop, so you’re going with a dive charter. A juried group of new sculptures goes down every year, and the older ones have already turned into living reef.
- πΆ The coastal dune lakes. Walton County has 15 named coastal dune lakes along 26 miles of coast. Outside of here, they exist in four other places on the planet β Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, and Oregon. When the water rises high enough, a lake cuts an “outfall” through the sand and drains straight into the Gulf, tea-colored freshwater running into emerald saltwater, then the tide pushes salt water and fish back in. It’s the strangest thing on 30A and it costs nothing to walk up and watch.
- ποΈ Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. $6 per vehicle, 8 a.m. to sunset. Three miles of undeveloped beach, distinctive tall sand dunes, more than 10 miles of trails, and Campbell Lake sitting behind the dunes. There’s a shuttle down to the beach but it is a long walk otherwise. 7525 W. County Highway 30A. See our guide **coming soon**.
- πΆ Grayton Beach State Park. $5 per vehicle, 8 a.m. to sunset, 365 days a year. Nearly 2,000 acres holding three coastal dune lakes, four miles of trail through coastal forest, and a mile of sugar-white beach that lands on “best in America” lists year after year. The centerpiece is Western Lake β 100 acres of tea-dark dune lake tucked behind the dunes, and the easiest one on 30A to actually get on. Friends of Grayton rents kayaks and paddleboards right on the lake, seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and you can book ahead online.
- π΅Bike the Timpoochee Trail – a 19 mile paved biking and hiking path that runs all along Highway 30A.
- π Deer Lake State Park. $3 per vehicle, honor box, exact change. A boardwalk climbs over the dunes with a coastal dune lake on one side and the Gulf on the other. The lot is small and the park closes when it fills, so go early or go late. 6350 E. County Road 30A.
- π³ Eden Gardens State Park. $4 per vehicle. 163 acres of moss-draped live oaks around the 1897 Wesley House, with a rose garden and a camellia-filled secret garden that blooms through winter β one of the few things to do on 30A that’s genuinely better in January.
- π₯Ύ Eastern Lake Trails, Point Washington State Forest. Fifteen thousand acres and 20+ miles of trail a few minutes off 30A, and almost no visitor knows it’s there. Three stacked loops β 3.6, 5.9, and 10.9 miles β through pine flatwoods, sand pine scrub, and pitcher-plant bogs. $2 per person, self-pay. Seasonal hunting is allowed in Point Washington, so be aware when you visit.
- π₯ Beach bonfires. Legal, but permitted βA one-night temporary permit on Gulf-front property runs $150 for wood or $100 for propane, approved by South Walton Fire District. Plenty of local companies will handle the permit, setup and teardown as a package, which is the right call for most visitors. Book ahead in season.

30A By the Season
Four different versions of the same road. Here’s what each one is actually like, and the festivals worth planning around. We’ve left the dates off on purpose β they move every year, and they live on the events calendar where we can keep them righ

πΈSpring: Festivals Come Back
The beach is still uncrowded and the weather is about as good as Florida gets. Water stays cold until roughly May, so this is trail-and-park season: the Timpoochee Trail, Topsail Hill, Grayton Beach, and Point Washington. It’s also when the food-and-wine calendar wakes up.
- Sandestin Food and Wine Festival – Village of Baytowne Wharf, Sandestin – April
- South Walton Beach Wine and Food Festival – at Grand Boulevard Mall in Sandestin – April
- Farmers Markets – Weekly farmers markets at various locations along 30A – named Grand Boulevard and Seaside on Saturdays, and Rosemary Beach on Sundays
- Digital Graffiti Festival – Alys Beach – Alys Beach, May. Now held every other year; the next one is in 2028.
βοΈ Summer: Sun, Sand & Warm Waters
Peak everything. The Gulf is bathwater, the free concerts run on the Seaside lawn, and both weekend farmers markets are going. Sea turtle nesting season runs May through October, which is why the lights-out and fill-your-holes rules matter most now. Go early as the beach fills up fast. Check out the 30A Beach Conditions hereβ
- Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic – Sandestin, June
- Free Beach Concerts Weekly in Seaside, Gulf Place, all all along 30A
- Red, White & Baytowne – Baytowne Wharf, July
- Fourth of July Parades – all along 30A, July
- Fireworks on the Fourth β catch them in Seaside or Rosemary Beach.
August is the quietest month of the summer for events. The markets and live music carry it.
π Fall: Fewer Crowds, Full Flavor – Our Pick
The crowds clear out after Labor Day, the Gulf holds its warmth well into October, and rates drop off summer peak and stay down until spring. October is the busiest festival month on the whole calendar, and mid-September through early November is the best value window of the year.
- Perfect Hues Art Festival at Baytowne Wharf in September
- Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival – Baytowne Warf, October
- Harvest Wine & Food Festival – Watercolor, October
- Seeing Red Wine Festival – Seaside, November
- 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Race – Rosemary Beach, November
π Winter: Quiet, Cool and Cheap
Don’t plan on swimming in the gulf, but do plan on walking, biking, or riding to any restaurant you want. The towns do holiday lighting and tree events through December, and January and February hold two of the best events on the road β one of them the reason mid-February books up while the rest of winter doesn’t.
- Holiday tree lightings & parades β most towns, December
- Eden Gardens Christmas Candlelight Tour β Point Washington, December
- New Yearβs Eve fireworks in Seaside and Rosemary Beach
- 30A Songwriters Festival in January β intimate shows with big-name talent.
- 30A Half Marathon & 5K in Februaryβ cooler temps, same stunning views.
- 30A Wine Festival – Alys Beach, February
- Sandestin Gumbo Festival – Baytowne Wharf, February
